New Delhi: India test-fired the nuclear-capable Agni-4 ballistic missile on 6 August 2026 from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, Odisha. The launch was conducted under the Strategic Forces Command, and the Ministry of Defence stated that all mission objectives and operational parameters were validated.
Agni-4 belongs to India’s Agni series of surface-to-surface ballistic missiles. The Agni family includes missiles with different ranges and configurations, and the series forms part of India’s land-based strategic missile capability.
Agni-4 is a two-stage, solid-fuel missile with a length of about 20 metres. It has an operational strike range of around 4,000 kilometres and a payload capacity of about 1,000 kilograms. The missile can be launched from a road-mobile launcher, which is designed for mobility and survivability.
The missile also uses an advanced re-entry heat shield. The shield is designed to withstand external temperatures above 3,000°C while keeping internal electronics below 50°C.
